Just like a great Bollywood movie, this recipe is exciting and fun with a perfect mixture of Rice Chex* cereal, a masala and three crunchy nuts.

Ingredients

  • 9 cups (2.25 L) Rice Chex* Cereal
  • 1 cup (250 mL) cashews
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) pistachios (shelled)
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) almonds
  • 1 1/2 tbsp (25 mL) butter
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL) light corn syrup
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL) honey
  • 3/4 tsp (3 mL) salt
  • 3/4 tsp (3 mL) ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground ginger
  • Dash cayenne pepper

    In large microwaveable bowl, mix cereal, cashews, pistachios, and almonds. In small microwaveable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on High about 30 seconds or until melted. Stir in corn syrup and honey; microwave on High about 10 more seconds. Add salt, cardamom, ginger, and cayenne; stir well. Pour over cereal mixture; stir until evenly coated.

    Microwave mixture uncovered on High 3 minutes, stirring after each minute. Spread on waxed paper or foil to cool. Store in airtight container.

    Tip: This is one of those great sweet and salty mixes with a layer of flavours ... you get a nice sweetness from the honey and the corn syrup, then the saltiness, then the warm flavour of the cardamon and the slight bite of the ginger and cayenne. You just can't stop eating it!

    Do-Ahead: Avoid last-minute prep by making this mix up to 1 week ahead and storing it in an airtight container.
