Date Walnut Cookies

Oatmeal and dates marry in a rich cookie-jar favourite. Make two batches if you want the cookie jar to stay full a long time.

Ingredients

1 pkg (496 g) Betty Crocker* Oatmeal Cookie Mix
1/2 cup (125 mL) butter or margarine
1 egg
1 tbsp (15 mL) water
1 pkg (8 oz) chopped dates
¾ cup(175 mL) chopped walnuts
icing sugar, if desired

Instructions

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). In large bowl, stir all ingredients until stiff dough forms.
  • 2 Drop dough by teaspoonfuls 2 inches (5 cm) apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  • 3 Bake 10 to 11 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Sprinkle with icing sugar.

Expert Tips

Tip: To use whole dates, snip dates into small pieces with scissors dipped into a glass of water.
