Ingredients

  • 6 cups (1.5 L) Rice Chex* cereal
  • 25 caramels, unwrapped
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) butter or margarine
  • 2 tbsp (25 mL) milk
  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) semisweet chocolate chips

Steps

    Place cereal in large microwavable bowl.

    In medium microwavable bowl, microwave caramels, butter and milk uncovered on High 2 to 3 minutes, stirring after each minute, until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth. Pour over cereals; gently stir until evenly coated.

    Microwave on High 3 to 4 minutes, stirring after each minute, until just beginning to brown. Spread on waxed paper to cool.

    In small microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips uncovered on High about 1 minute or until chocolate can be stirred smooth. Drizzle over snack. Refrigerate until set. Store in airtight container.

    Success: For easy melting and drizzling, place chocolate chips in microwavable small resealable plastic food storage bag; seal. Microwave on High 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds or until chips appear slightly melted; squeeze bag until chips are completely melted. Force chocolate into corner of bag, and use scissors to snip off a tiny corner. Squeeze bag to drizzle chocolate.
