Putting the salad right on the burger is a fun way to jazz up a Canadian favourite.

  • 1 lb (500 g) lean ground turkey
  • 2 tbsp (25 mL) chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) onion salt
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) pepper
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) purchased reduced-fat creamy Caesar salad dressing
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) shredded romaine lettuce
  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) shredded fresh parmesan cheese
  • 4 kaiser or whole grain buns, split
  • 4 thin slices tomato

  • 1
Heat closed contact grill for 5 minutes.
  • 2
Meanwhile, in large bowl, combine ground turkey, parsley, onion salt, pepper and 2 tablespoons of the salad dressing; mix well. Shape mixture into 4 patties, 1/2 inch thick.
  • 3
When grill is heated, place patties on bottom grill surface. Close grill; cook 8 to 10 minutes or until patties are no longer pink in centre.
  • 4
In small bowl, combine lettuce, cheese and remaining salad dressing; toss to mix. Spoon mixture evenly onto bottom halves of buns. Top with patties, tomato slices and top halves of buns.

  • Tip: These burgers can also be grilled on the barbecue.
  • Healthy Hint: Make sure your burgers are lean by purchasing ground turkey breast. Products labeled simply ground turkey may also contain dark meat and skin, adding to the fat content of your burgers.
