Ingredients

  • 1 pkg (510 g) Betty Crocker* SuperMoist* Butter Pecan Cake Mix
  • 1 cup (250 mL) water
  • 1/3 cup (75 mL) butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) maple syrup or maple-flavoured syrup
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped pecans, toasted
  • 1 tub (340 g) Betty Crocker* Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting
  • Chopped pecans, toasted (for garnish)

    Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease or spray with non-stick cooking spray one 12-cup (3 L) fluted tube pan.•

    In large bowl, beat all ingredients (except frosting) with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes. Pour into pan.

    Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 2 hours.

    Place frosting in microwaveable bowl. Microwave uncovered on Medium 10 to 15 seconds.

    Spread frosting over top of cake, allowing it to flow down sides. Garnish with additional toasted chopped pecans if desired. Store loosely covered.

    To toast the pecans, spread in a shallow ungreased pan; bake uncovered in a 350ºF oven 6 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until light brown.
