  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 oz (125 g) bulk Italian sausage (or 1 to 2 Italian sausages, casings removed)
  • 1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 can Pillsbury™ refrigerated pizza crust
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce (from 398 mL can)
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons thinly sliced fresh basil leaves

  • 1
Heat oven to 425°F. In 10-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add sausage, and cook 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink. Using slotted spoon, transfer to small bowl.
  • 2
Add mushrooms and salt to drippings in skillet; cook 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until softened and browned. Stir in garlic; remove from heat.
  • 3
Spray or grease cookie sheet. Unroll dough and place on cookie sheet; starting at centre, press out dough to edge of cookie sheet. Bake 6 to 8 minutes until crust is set and dry.
  • 4
Spread tomato sauce evenly over dough. Top with mushroom mixture. Top with sausage, red onion and cheese. Bake 7 to 12 minutes longer or until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown. Top with basil.

  • To save time, opt for presliced white button mushrooms.
  • Need a little heat? Use hot Italian sausage, or add 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes to mushroom mixture.
