Ingredients

  • 1 pkg (510 g) Betty Crocker* Super Moist Cake Mix (any flavour)
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs as called for on cake mix package
  • 1 tub (450 g) Betty Crocker* Creamy Deluxe* White Frosting or (340 g) Whipped White Frosting
  • Yellow and red food colours
  • Blue and green neon food colours
  • 3 small pkgs tropical flavour candy-coated fruit-flavoured chewy candies or 1 bag (8 oz) candy-coated chocolate candies

    Heat oven to 350oF(325°F for dark or non-stick pans). Lightly grease or spray with non-stick cooking spray, bottom and side of 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan. Place paper baking cup in each of 12 regular-size muffin cups.

    Make cake mix as directed on box, using water, oil and eggs. Spread half of batter in round pan; spoon remaining batter into muffin cups. Bake as directed on box. Cool completely, about 1 hour.

    In small bowl, place 1 tablespoon (15 mL) frosting; stir in 2 drops yellow food colour. In another small bowl, place 1/4 cup (50 mL) frosting, 3 drops yellow food colour and 1 drop red food colour; stir to make orange frosting. In third small bowl, place 1/2 cup (125 mL) frosting; stir in 7 drops blue neon food colour. To remaining frosting in container, stir in 7 drops green neon food colour.

    On serving plate, place cake layer with rounded side down. Frost top and side with green frosting. Frost 7 cupcakes with blue frosting, 4 cupcakes with orange frosting and 1 cupcake with yellow frosting. Place 1 blue cupcake on centre of green frosted cake. Place remaining blue cupcakes, sides touching, in circle around centre cupcake. Place 2 rows of 2 orange cupcakes on top centre of blue cupcakes. Place yellow cupcake on top centre. Press candies into frosting to decorate. Store loosely covered at room temperature.
