Sugary Gingerbread-Oat Chews

Make an easy version of an old-fashioned favorite cookie loaded with sugar and spice.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL) molasses
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) ground ginger
  • 3/4 tsp (3 mL) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) ground cloves
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pouch Betty Crocker* Oatmeal Cookie Mix
  • 1/3 cup (75 mL) coarse sugar

    Heat oven to 375ºF. In large bowl, beat butter, molasses, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and egg with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add cookie mix; beat until soft dough forms.

    Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in sugar. On ungreased baking sheets, place balls 2 inches apart.

    Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Store in tightly covered container.
