Little Jack Horner would love this plum-filled apple dessert. The spices make the baking aroma extra fragrant.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) Cheerios* cereal, finely crushed
  • 1/3 cup (75 mL) butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp (25 mL) granulated sugar
  • 2 cups (500 mL) sliced peeled apples
  • 2 cups (500 mL) sliced plums
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) allspice
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) apple juice
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) vanilla ice cream

    Heat oven to 350ºF. Lightly grease 10x6-inch (1 1/2-quart) baking dish. In medium bowl, combine crushed cereal, butter and sugar; mix well. In large bowl, combine apples, plums, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice; mix well.

    Reserve 1/4 cup cereal mixture for topping. Spoon half of remaining cereal mixture evenly into greased baking dish. Top evenly with half of apple mixture. Sprinkle with remaining half of cereal mixture and 1/4 cup of the apple juice. Repeat with remaining apples, reserved cereal mixture and remaining juice. Cover tightly with foil.

    Bake at 350ºF. for 60 to 70 minutes or until fruit is tender, uncovering baking dish during last 15 minutes of baking time. Serve warm with ice cream.
