Ingredients

  • 1 box (430 g) Betty Crocker™ Angel Food Cake Mix
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) packed brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup (150 mL) 35% whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) unsalted butter, divided
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) corn syrup
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) ground cinnamon

    Prepare and bake cake mix according to package directions. Let cool completely. Cut into 2-inch (5 cm) pieces; set aside.

    Meanwhile, in saucepan set over medium heat, combine brown sugar, cream, 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter, and corn syrup; bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; cook, stirring frequently for about 5 minutes or until sauce is thickened and slightly darkened. Stir in vanilla, lemon juice and salt.

    Stir together sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Melt half of the remaining butter in large nonstick skillet set over medium heat. In batches, toast cake pieces, turning once, for about 5 minutes or until golden brown all over, adding more butter as needed.

    Toss toasted cake bites in cinnamon sugar; serve with warm caramel sauce for dipping.
