Ingredients

  • 1 lb (500 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 3/4 cups (925 mL) hot water
  • 1 pkg Hamburger Helper* Lasagna
  • 1 tomato, coarsely chopped
  • 1 green pepper, coarsely chopped
  • 1 - 2 tbsp (15 to 30 mL) chopped fresh oregano
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) grated Parmesan cheese

Steps

  •
    1
In large nonstick skillet, cook beef and chopped onion over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly cooked; drain.
  •
    2
Stir in hot water, Sauce Mix and uncooked Pasta. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally.
  •
    3
Reduce heat, cover and simmer about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Stir in tomatoes and peppers and cook about 5 minutes longer, stirring occasionally until pasta is tender.

Remove from heat and uncover; stir in fresh oregano and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.  Let stand 5 minutes to allow sauce to thicken.

Expert Tips

  • Tip 1
Substitution: Instead of fresh oregano, you can use 1 tsp (5 mL) dried oregano leaves.  Add with water and sauce mix instead of at the end.
