Ingredients

4 cups (1 L) Rice Chex* cereal
4 cups (1 L) Bugles* original corn snacks
2 cups (500 mL) chow mein noodles
1 cup (250 mL) pretzel sticks
1 cup (250 mL) salted peanuts
6 tbsp (90 mL) butter or margarine
1 tsp (5 mL) garlic powder
2 tbsp (30 mL) soy sauce
1 pkg (1 oz/28 g) chow mein oriental seasoning mix
1 cup (250 mL) wasabi-coated peas

    In large microwavable bowl, mix cereal, corn snacks, chow mein noodles, pretzels and peanuts.

    In microwavable measuring cup, microwave butter uncovered on High about 40 seconds or until melted. Stir in garlic powder, soy sauce and chow mein seasoning mix with wire whisk until well mixed. Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated.

    Microwave uncovered on High about 5 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes, until mixture looks dry and crisp. Spread on paper towels; cool 15 minutes. Place in serving bowl; stir in wasabi-coated peas. Store in airtight container.

Expert Tips

  • Did You Know? : Wasabi is the Japanese version of horseradish and has a sharp, pungent, fiery flavour. Wasabi-coated peas add a fiery sweet flavour to the snack mix. If you choose not to use them in this recipe, substitute 1 cup sesame sticks.
